Multicentre audit of biopsy results in paediatric renal tumours
As per the SIOP RTSG 2016 protocol, renal tumour biopsy is not indicated for children between 6 months and 7 years of age as usually these are Wilms tumour. Exceptions are predominantly cystic lesion and atypical imaging features. However, the experience at different tertiary centres is not completely in keeping with this still many oncologists prefer having a biopsy for all paediatric renal tumour irrespective of age.
Study design: Retrospective multi-centre trial
Inclusion criteria: Patients 16 years of age or under with a new diagnosis of a renal mass undergoing biopsy with histopathologically confirmed diagnosis. Pre-operative cross sectional imaging (Contrast MRI preferable, or Contrast CT scan). Ancillary findings documented.
Exclusion criteria: No pre-operative imaging or biopsy not performed
Planned study period: last 10 years
Objective: Determine the different renal tumour types a per age and possibly develop an imaging and pathological correlation for assessing imaging confidence to diagnose or exclude Wilms tumour.
